The Art of the Ayurvedic way of life is all about restoring your innate connection with the natural world, as a way to connect with your own True Inner Nature, which is an Abundance of Health, Wholeness, and Unlimited Freedom and Power.

Ayurveda is the art of daily living in harmony with the laws of nature. It is an ancient wisdom of health and healing, a science of Life. The aim of this science is to maintain the health of a healthy person and to heal the dis-ease of an unhealthy person. Both prevention and healing are carried out by entirely natural means. Ayurveda encompasses diet and nutrition, lifestyle, exercise (yoga) breathing exercises, and medicinal herbs, along with cleansing and rejuvenation for healing body, mind, and spirit.

Shirodhara

Shirodhara massage is a classic Ayurvedic therapy, which includes pouring of warm herbal oil on the forehead in a continuous stream. This technique is very effective in promoting sound sleep and reducing stress. The term shirodhara comes from the two words; “shira” meaning head and “dhara” meaning stream.

How does shirodhara work?

Pouring warm oils stimulates and soothes the hypothalamus gland, thereby regulating the functions of the pituitary gland and inducing sleep.

It also stimulates Marma points, vital points in the head ( similar to acupunture meridians) and improves circulation. The warm oils used also cause vasodilation of all the channels and thereby improve blood circulation of the brain.

Shirodhara also reduces the level of stress hormones such as adrenaline and noradrenaline and therefore relaxes the mind.

The oil is commonly pre mixed with herbs for specific conditions.

It is followed by a warm steam tent, this assists the oils to penetrate deep into the layers of tissue adding further relaxation to the overall treatment.

The oils used can vary depending on the season and the individual’s unique constitution and imbalances.
